DESMA USA continues to expand its manufacturing capabilities by growing its unattended milling operations in Hebron.
DESMA tooling for the rubber and silicone industry is designed to meet very tight dimensional tolerances (+/- 10 micrometers or 10μ). This often requires thousands of hours of metal cutting on our 3- and 5-axis milling centers to achieve the desired quality results. Our schedulers, CAM programmers, machinists, and mold makers seek ways to increase capabilities. Unattended milling helps gain a competitive edge.
DESMA’s NAMC (North American Manufacturing Center) uses a combination of active scheduling, Siemens NX CAM software, FCS technology (work setup), and smart cutting tool selection to optimize unattended milling. As a result, many of our milling centers run late in the evening without an operator present, increasing our overall capacity. For example, we frequently rough plates, rough cavity inserts, and finish-mill cavities in the evening, providing nearly three-quarters of an additional shift’s output to help fulfill our customers’ growing requirements.
