VERTICAL MACHINES

Vertical Machines offer flexibility and footprint advantages

DESMA vertical machines (deemed 968 series) uses a clamping system that opens and closes vertically. DESMA offers two basic options; a closing from the top with lateral or side injection (what we call our 968 T series machines) and a closing from the bottom with injection through the upper bolster (what we call our 968 ZO series). There are attributes for each type and the molding process including tool design typically drives the decision for ZO or T.

Top injection (ZO) is most common in the market due to the flexibility and footprint of the machine. Top inject machines have a movable lower bolster that opens and closes every cycle. The upper bolster or fixed bolster does not move. Top inject machines, depending on size of the machine may require a platform or pit, unless the DESMA patented BENCHMARK clamping system is selected. The BENCHMARK clamp uses high speed machine tool technology to slide the high pressure hydraulic cylinder in and out from under the bolster, allowing for a very low resting position for demolding.

Side inject machines (T series) inject rubber laterally into a clamping station that has a fixed lower bolster but a movable upper bolster. T series machines typically require the injection unit to disengage from the mold or cold runner package prior to opening. A typical application of DESMA 968 T machines are stack mold designs with a center mounted cold runner (CRB) for the production of thin engine gaskets. T machines also offer a short distance for the unvulcanized rubber to travel due to the orientation of the injection unit. T machines have increased options for very large shot volumes compared to injection units that reside on top of a press (ZO).

Contact your Regional Sales Engineer to discuss if a ZO or T machine is the correct machine for your application and specific details.

INJECTION UNITS

The FIFO-A injection unit is DESMA’s most successful injection unit and is ideally suited for medium to very large injection volumes. Due to a low material intake height in combination with a fully liftable nozzle, the best possible conditions for a high operating comfort are given.

The FIFO-Advanced injection unit offers further advantages. In addition to further improved injection accuracy, the very stable overall design allows significantly larger silicone stopper systems to be combined. This drastically reduces refill cycles.

The FIFO-B injection unit with integrated hydraulic nozzle lift is used in particular for DESMA horizontal machines. In principle, this injection unit is also optimally suited for injection molding machines with lateral injection into the mold parting line (T series).

The FIFO-C injection unit is ideal for the smallest to medium injection volumes. Due to the fixed nozzle, a very short nozzle length is given. Our FIFO-C is the standard injection unit for C-frame injection molding machines and small DESMA horizontal machines.

QuickLock

The hydro-mechanical quick clamping system QuickLock also makes ‚hot‘ mold changes possible within a few minutes. In combination with DESMA preheating units, set-up times can thus be significantly minimized and the productivity of the injection molding machines increased.

BENCHMARK LOCKING SYSTEM

Unrivaled low operating heights in combination with exceptional stroke ratios offer the best conditions for ergonomic operability. With the fully hydraulic BENCHMARK clamping system, even large machines can be operated perfectly and largely without platforms or foundations. The upper edge of the hot platen can be reached up to 6,300 kN clamping force at a height of 750 mm. Even at clamping forces up to 1,000 kN, there is no need for platforms. Mold height adjustment is also automatic via laser.
